The Ice Castles in Dillon, Colorado are back once again with over 25,000 tons of ice that has been sculpted into a winter wonderland for young and old to explore.
We bought our tickets in advance online, which gave us a time-slot to aim for. They weren’t super strict, but sticking to your time helps manage the amount of people going through at the same time.
From the minute we began our walk from the ticket counter into the Dillon Ice Castles, you could hear the exclamations of awe from our group.
“Wow, look at this!”, “Oh, my gosh!”, and “I feel like we’re in Frozen!” were some of what our kids called out as we entered through the main ice corridor entrance.
Thousands of icicles formed the walls and arches of the castle, and the beautiful creations took our breath away around every turn. The kids quickly located the caves and slides and began exploring. We were glad we were dressed in hats, gloves, snow pants, boots and good jackets because although it wasn’t too cold that day, there are slides, caves and thrones of ice that would have gotten a pair of jeans and shoes wet and cold.
We spent a good 45 minutes to 1 hour exploring, sliding, and photographing as much as we could. And only after the kids got to slide 3 more times would they consider leaving. A great time was had by all!
At night the Ice Castles come alive with lights and music that take the Ice Castles experience to a whole new level!
Definitely check out the Ice Castles in Dillon, CO for 2020! You’ll be glad you did!
