Mustang Ambassador Program Equine-Assisted Youth Leadership Programs Through equine-assisted learning (EAP), the Mustang Ambassador Program (MAP) partners students with our mustangs to teach area youth how to care for and how to confidently ride well-trained horses. In addition to equitation, the program serves as navigational tool (a map) for their lives and helps them learn valuable self-leadership skills and practical life-lessons that will serve them well as they grow as individuals. MAP students learn foundational principles of leadership throughout the program; they learn responsibility and work ethic (self-management) through the care and feeding of the animals; they learn how relationships with the horses which includes respect and empathy is necessary to building healthy relationships outside the arena; they learn about the importance of clear communication both with the horse and within human relationships. They also gain an understanding of the importance of healthy problem solving and working through issues they may face in life and in doing so build resilience in their character. The program teaches ground horsemanship skills as well as English and western riding disciplines, all with safety as a priority. Students have an end-of-the-week performance evaluation in the form of a horse show where they display their leadership skills as well as the horsemanship skills they have acquired during the week. The programs offer a great opportunity for students to connect with one another, with their horse and grow their personal leadership capabilities. Cost: Early-bird rate until April 15: $475, after 4/15 $500/student The price includes all manuals and materials. Students should bring lunch and water. The times are from 9AM to 4PM daily and the performance evaluation on Friday of each week will be at 2PM. We encourage parents, grandparents and all family members to attend the performance evaluations to see the progress their students have made!
