Celebrate the 140th Anniversary of Seven Falls!!

Seven Falls: A Place Where Families Can Create Lasting memories

By Jenn Grubb Editor/Publisher Macaroni Kid Colorado Springs May 13, 2023

Can you believe Seven falls is celebrating 140 years? If you have never been, I highly recommend taking your kiddo's to see this wonderful attraction filled with so much history and beauty!  I recently had the opportunity to get a private tour from Krista Heinicke, the Director of Public Relations and it did not disappoint! I have to say that I have lived in Colorado and had never had the chance to see this amazing site. Now I have to wonder why?

The Seven Falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. It is a great place for families to come and spend time together. The falls are located in the middle of a lush forest and is accessible by a short hike from the parking lot. The falls themselves are about 181 feet tall and are a beautiful sight to behold. In the day or in the dark of night it is a beautiful site! The entire location has so much to offer for all ages!  If you are not a fan of heights or stairs there is an elevator that will take you to the top across from the falls to get a great view and you get to go through a pretty cool tunnel and learn some impressive history along the way!

Seven Falls is a great place to come and relax. There is a beautiful entry with lush trees, green grass and numerous benches and picnic tables located throughout the park. The falls are also a great place to take pictures and enjoy some of the best scenery our state has to offer.

With the 140th Anniversary in mind, Seven Falls decided to make this huge celebration about the kids! They added a super fun approach to the celebration! They included ten 3rd grade schools from El Paso county to help highlight all there is to do in the canyon. The kids were to take note ( like a scavenger hunt) of what they can see and find on their adventure there!  Ten schools won and were given a 4-foot statue to decorate with their inspirations, notes and findings from all around the Seven Falls. These cute chipmunks are now placed throughout the canyon for you to find and vote on your favorite.  (It is going to be tough they are so cute!) There is a voting box next to each one! Only one will be crowned Cheyenne Canyon royalty. Find out on September 6th!

Sneak Peak:

Families can do a variety of activities at Seven Falls. Depending on the season, there are plenty of opportunities for adventure and exploration. In the summer months, there are plenty of opportunities to spend time cooling off by the chilly waters of the falls. Hiking through the trails in the park can give you a better understanding and appreciation of the natural beauty around the area. The summer months also bring with it a variety of camping opportunities. Campers can take advantage of the designated camp sites, as well as the cross-country trails that offer an even greater challenge for more experienced campers.

No matter what time of year it is, Seven Falls is a great place for families to visit.

Seven Falls is special in many ways. Its majestic beauty is unlike anywhere else. It is one of Colorado's most impressive displays of nature and provides visitors with a unique opportunity to observe and explore an untouched natural beauty. Who doesn't love beautiful scenery and great food?  FOOD?? Yes, I said great food! There is an absolutely amazing dining experience in 1858. It was closed for the last few years because of covid, but another reason to celebrate this anniversary is this award winning restaurant is open again!

The spectacular waterfalls, wildlife, and stunning mountain scenery provide families with a unique setting to build memories and create lasting bonds. The park is home to many animals, including elk, deer, bears, and even mountain goats.

Family bonding is a great way to create strong relationships and build long-lasting memories that will last a lifetime. Seven Falls is the perfect place for families to bond and create some fun lasting memories that will be cherished forever.  (maybe even see a special chipmunk along the way)

One of the best ways to bond is to take part in a hike up to the Falls. This way, everyone has a chance to explore the natural surroundings, spend time together, and get to know each other a little bit better.  There are two main trails as you reach the top of the falls. It is a great chance to just talk and have some meaningful conversations, as distractions such as phones and TVs are left behind. There are multiple trails at the top of the falls. Your journey at the top is just beginning, you have only seen a small part of what the area has to offer!
