If you haven't heard the news, there are big changes coming to the shopper's experience in the State of Colorado due to House Bill 21-1162, which was enacted in 2021 by the Colorado General Assembly.

About the Fee

Starting January 1, 2023, stores in the State of Colorado will begin charging 10¢ per bag for any store-provided recycled paper carryout bag or a single-use plastic carryout bag used to carry out your paid merchandise from the store.

Unless you bring your own bag or container to carry out your merchandise, you'll be paying an extra fee for every bag you use for your purchased products. This will impact pickup orders as well, so plan ahead!

To avoid the fee, you'll need to bring your own bag, box, or another container. If you haven't already, now is the time to invest in an array of reusable bags and containers. Consider keeping easily wipeable bins or laundry baskets in the car for pick-up orders in addition to easily cleanable reusable bags.

Keep It Clean, Colorado

Remember, these bins and bags will be getting dirty on every grocery run and can pick up germs and dirt from the store. Create a cleaning schedule for your reusable bins and bags.
