Why hello there, November. Ask anyone in Colorado Springs what holiday falls in November and they'll likely say Thanksgiving. But it turns out there are lots of other holidays and events happening this month too! So we've rounded up five other mostly offbeat holidays and events your family can celebrate this month from Palmer Lake to Pueblo!
1. Celebrate Cookie Monster's birthday
It's the big blue guy's birthday! We dare not ask his age, but we know how to celebrate! With cookies, right? Right. ME WANT COOKIE!
Pick up a dozen from Confections by Charlee in Colorado Springs to celebrate! Nov 2.
2. Eat a sandwich
BLT? PB&J? Grilled cheese? Your choice on National Sandwich Day. My family's favorite spot for sandwiches in Colorado Springs is Olde World Bagel & Deli. If you haven't, you have to try the TASMANIAN--Roast Beef, Provolone, Red Onion, Green peppers, and garlic-herb cream cheese on a toasted sourdough bagel ! Yum. Nov. 3
Mention Macaroni kid at Olde World Bagel on the 3rd and get 10% off your order!! How cool is that!! Their food is great, and you get a discount while supporting a small business!!! WIN WIN WIN!!
3. Visit the Pikes Peak Children's Museum with hands-on STEM opportunities
Visit Pikes Peak Children's Museum to have some STEAM fun! STEM/STEAM Day highlights the importance of introducing and encouraging kids to explore their interests in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. We admit, we have fun at the Pikes Peak Children's Museum too. Nov. 8
Want some at-home STEM fun? Here are three easy projects our kids love:
- STEAM Fun: Make Giant Bubbles In Your Backyard
- Getting Salty: Salt Painting is Colorful At-Home STEAM Fun
- How To Make Puffy Candy Corn Slime
4. Play Monopoly
Don't go straight to Jail. Instead, dust off this old classic (did you know this game has been around since 1883?) and settle in for an epic family game night on National Play Monopoly Day. Or really, any board game will do. My kids love the games available at Dungeons & Javas . And when we want to pick up a new game? The best selection of games in Colorado Springs is Petrie's Family Games Nov. 19
5. Shop local!
OK, this one might not be offbeat, but it's really important to our locally owned businesses from Palmer Lake to Pueblo! Small Business Saturday falls every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Take the kids for a day of holiday shopping in Colorado Springs and make sure not to miss these Small Business Saturday special events.
