Library Giving Platform to Local Artists & Musicians During Pandemic

‘Artists of the Knight’ series creates opportunity while venues closed

By Pikes Peak Library District November 25, 2020

Though the pandemic has created hardships for local artists and musicians, a new virtual performance space  is cause for hope.

The new Artists of the Knight series, hosted by Pikes Peak Library District’s recently reopened and reimagined  Knights of Columbus Hall, is a venue for artists from around the Pikes Peak region to virtually share their talent  with the community. The series will launch on Wed., Nov. 25 with a lineup of six artists, specializing in  everything from the southern blues to visual art. Videos featuring the initial six artists in the series will premiere  every Wednesday at 4 p.m. on the PPLDTV YouTube channel.

Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 20 W. Pikes Peak Ave. in downtown Colorado Springs, officially reopened to the public on Sat., March 7, but was unfortunately temporarily closed soon after in addition to all PPLD  facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The space was intended to provide a new twist on the traditional  library, providing free, reservable space for locals to hold events, performances, presentations, classes, and  more.

Because PPLD locations are currently open by reservation only, Knights of Columbus Hall’s spaces cannot yet  be reserved for public events. However, the Artists of the Knight series is a way for Knights of Columbus Hall  to take its mission to support local creatives online.

The first six artists in the Artists of the Knight Series are as follows:

  • Wed., Nov. 25: Joe Johnson, country, rock, blues (and more!) musician
  • Wed., Dec. 2: Brian Tryon, photographer and visual artist
  • Wed., Dec. 9: Jeremiah Walter, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter
  • Wed., Dec. 16: Darla Slee, visual artist
  • Wed., Dec. 23: Michael Doherty, shakuhachi player/craftsman, composer, and percussionist • Wed., Dec. 30: Yuriy Luzov, ceramics artist
