Today's article is Ten Facts You Should Know About Furries! I'll be explaining some interesting points about this community.
1. The furry community is based strongly around charity.
In fact, there was a furry charity walk several months ago right here in Colorado! A hundred or so people walked in their furry costumes for a few miles, raising lots of money toward charity.
2. 'Fursuits' are a big part of the community.
A fursuit is a costume of your custom animal character, or fursona, that people wear to furry events! They are always pretty cute, and it is super fun to act out what you're saying in suit!
3. There are more kinds of characters that aren't furry and fluffy!
A fursona can be any animal you want it to be, even a made up one like a unicorn or dragon! Besides furries, there are furries who have 'Scaly" characters! Scalies are typically reptiles or dinosaurs!

4. Did you know... fursuiting is a way for people who are very shy or have a disability to have a way to fit in?
That's right! If you're shy, or have a disability, or simply feel like you don't fit it, fursuiting is an outlet to help you! In your suit, you can be anyone, and act however you want! No one will ever judge you.
5. The furry community is extremely welcoming and understanding!
No matter how young or old you are, how short or tall, the furry community will welcome you! Everyone is very kind and helpful, and they will help you whenever you need help!

6. Being a furry is a way to show off your artistic skill and creativity!
When you're a furry, you can post and show off your digital art or art on paper! Fursuit making is also a creative outlet, as you can do whatever you want! And remember, everyone starts somewhere! Never put yourself down about your skill.

7. Did you know... Fursuiting is actually just a form of cosplaying?
That's right! Ever see someone dressed up as a knight in armor, or a fairy? Well, fursuiting is the same kind of thing! You dress up in costume and act out the characteristics of your character!
8. Not many people know, but the term "furries" was originally coined in 1983, and it became an official 'Fandom' in the mid-1990s.
As Wikipedia said, "The specific term furry fandom was being used in fanzines as early as 1983, and had become the standard name for the genre by the mid-1990s, when it was defined as "the organized appreciation and dissemination of art and prose regarding 'Furries', or fictional mammalian anthropomorphic characters"." Which is a very good summary of the fandom.
9. Art is a big part of the fandom for most furries!
Many do digital art, which allows for typically easier forms of art, but others are amazing at art on paper, also called traditional art! Furries typically draw their own characters or other peoples characters!
10. Attending 'Fur-cons' is a fun aspect of the fandom!
When someone attends a fur-con, or a furry convention, it is to meet furry friends their age and to show off their art and fursuit! Fur-cons can also have dance contests, art trading meetups, and fun games!
