Locate the Leprechaun!

Tony's Downtown Bar

326 N Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Mar 9, 2024 at 01:00 pm - 03:00 pm (Sat)

  • Sign up your kiddos for Locate the Leprechaun! It includes a special "Official Locator" cotton t-shirt, all the clues (trinkets) Lenny left behind, and a special treat at the last location. For the sake of the parents'/guardians' sanity we will include a map with all the locations on it (and FYI some of those locations have great food and drinks if you decide you need to take a break!) Kids will get a scroll of paper with all the Clues you need to find the leprechaun.

In 2020 & 2021, Lenny the Leprechaun was so upset we didn’t have a parade, he ran away!

And after last year’s first parade back, he seems to have taken a liking to his time away.

After we checked his usual haunts, it appears that Lenny is still hiding, and we certainly can’t have the parade without him!

Can you help us find out where he is? Sign up your kiddos for Locate the Leprechaun!

It includes a special “Official Locator” cotton t-shirt, all the clues (trinkets) Lenny left behind, and a special treat at the last location.

For the sake of the parents’/guardians’ sanity we will include a map with all the locations on it (and FYI some of those locations have great food and drinks if you decide you need to take a break!) Kids will get a scroll of paper with all the Clues you need to find the leprechaun.

Additional time info: https://csstpats.com/event/locate-the-leprechaun/

You will start inside Tony's Downtown Bar; this is where you'll pick up your shirt, get your map, and your clue scroll.

There are ten or more stops (including Tony's) and you will finish at Josh and John's Ice Cream!

The course itself is just shy of one mile long.

The event will run from 1PM to 3PM on March 9, 2024.

Once you start, there is no rush, we just ask you to be at the last stop by 3PM.

Make a windsock!

https://iheartcraftythings.com/st-patricks-day-windsocks.html

Are you searching for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow this month? Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green slime and gold glitter, a STEM project from Jennifer So, the publisher of Macaroni KID Birmingham-Troy. Kids of all ages will enjoy making this themselves and playing with it for days.

Ingredients:

4 oz. clear glue

4 oz. water

4 oz. liquid starch

Green food coloring

Gold glitter

Instructions

Mix 4 oz. of clear glue with 4 oz. of water until well blended.

Add food coloring and glitter and mix thoroughly.

Add liquid starch last and mix until slime begins to form.

Knead and mix with your hands until everything is well combined.

Store in a sealed bag or airtight container.

St. Patrick's Day Modeling Dough

Make green, black, and gold play dough, then add rainbow ribbon to make this homemade modeling dough recipe a St. Patrick's Day charm.

Ingredients:

2 cups of flour

2 cups of water

1 cup of salt

2 Tbsp. of vegetable oil

1 Tbsp. of cream of tartar

Food coloring in colors of your choice

Glitter (optional)

Instructions:

Note: If making multiple colors, cut the above recipe in half or thirds and do each color in separate batches.

Add all of the above ingredients (except the glitter) to a stainless steel pot and stir continuously over warm heat.

Continue stirring until it begins to form a ball (it will only take 3-4 minutes). It may still feel wet, but after kneading, the dough will be fine.

Pour your dough onto a sheet of parchment paper. Be careful, as it may be hot!

Once it's cool enough to handle, add glitter and knead.

Then it's time to play!

Build a Leprechaun Trap

Leprechauns are notorious troublemakers. Kyrie Collins, the publisher of  Macaroni KID Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock, Colo, tells us: "One year we woke to discover that a  leprechaun had snuck in to our house and tossed my boys' shoes all over their rooms. It was quite a mess, but the leprechaun made up for it by leaving a couple of games for my boys!" The next year Kyrie and her boys built a leprechaun trap to try to catch the naughty little visitor. How do you build a leprechaun trap? Any way you like! But if you need inspiration, here's how Kyrie and her boys did it:

Materials:

A shoe box

Wrapping paper, tissue paper, or construction paper in various shades of green

Gold coins

Craft sticks, paper, and a marker to make a sign

Glue and tape

Instructions:

Wrap the shoebox with green paper. Tissue paper works well because it is thin and folds easily. You can also use wrapping paper or construction paper!

Cut out some shamrocks to decorate the inside and outside of the box (or cut sets of 3 small hearts to glue together to form a shamrock).

Add your "pot of gold." Novelty gold coins work great, but one year we used double-sided tape to adhere a paper muffin baking cup to the box and then added gold Mardi Gras beads. You could also use foil-wrapped chocolate coins, Rolo candy, or Hershey's Almond Kisses for the "gold."

Since leprechauns love gold, make a sign to let them know there's gold inside your trap! Put double-sided tape all around the pot of gold so when the leprechaun tries to steal the gold, he'll get stuck!

Good luck catching your leprechaun!

Other Idea's

You certainly don't have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Kids love St. Patrick's Day ... and there's plenty you can do to make the day special for them!

Here are 17 ideas on how to make a memorable St. Patrick's Day for your kiddos:

1. Drink green milk

Secretly add a few drops of green food coloring to a glass of milk of cereal. Tell them the leprechaun must have done it!

2. Make them giggle with green toilet water

Add some green food coloring to the water in the toilet. Oops, I guess the leprechaun forgot to flush!

3. Create a leprechaun trap

Kids love getting creative making a trap to try to catch a leprechaun! Here are two fun examples:

4. Eat Lucky Charms

In my house kids don't get a lot of sugary cereals, but Lucky Charms on St. Patrick's Day is an exception!

5. Cook green pancakes

Just add some green dye to your pancake mix for a special St. Patrick's Day breakfast ... or dinner!

6. Get eggs-cited with green eggs

Green scrambled eggs? Yep! Today is the day to add green food dye to anything you can!

7. Slurp down green mint milkshakes

Yum... we love mint milkshakes. St. Patrick's Day is a great excuse to have one!

8. Hide gold coins around the house

That silly leprechaun dropped gold wrapped chocolate coins all over the house! Can your kids find them all?

9. Bake green cookies

We love baking as a family, and this Lime Shamrock Meringue Cookie recipe is a favorite!

10. Get crafty

Here are three simple St. Patrick's Day themed crafts you can make with your kiddos!

11. Add a note to their lunch

Wish them the luck of the Irish on a piece of paper cut into the shape of a four leaf clover or rainbow and hidden in their lunch box.

12. Sandwiches for dinner!

Try this amazing 5 Ingredient Dish: Triple Decker Corned Beef Special for an easy holiday dinner everyone will love.

13. Make a rainbow necklace

Simply string Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal onto string. Kids can wear it ... and then nibble on it for a snack!

14. Grow green grass... from a sponge!

Green is the color of St. Patrick's Day so what better time to sprinkle a few seeds? Check out our easy idea for a DIY sponge grass garden. Kids will love to watch their St. Patrick's Day seeds sprout!

15. Hold a scavenger hunt

See who can find the most green things in the house!

16. Learn the history of St. Patrick's Day

Did you know, for instance, that St. Patrick actually grew up in Britain and not Ireland? Learn more here!

17. Don't forget to wear green!

Because that's what we do.
